Le Village

Our village is very active with fetes, street parties and anniversaries and there’s a very welcoming village atmosphere. The summer programme is not yet out, of course, but you can get a flavour of how busy the village is by lookinolives-en-provence-9-3g at this village site run by an enthusiastic couple living in the village. There are things going on all round the year.

The official programme is issued by the Mairie in the spring – keep an eye on our FaceBook page and we’ll update this page. Tickets – where necessary for dinners in the square or the annual lunch street party for example – are on sale in the La Presse shop near the Bar Tabac.

Il y a toujours des dates clefs:

21 juin – Fete de la Musique. Un diner le 13 juillet, la traditionnelle soupe au pistou suivie d’une soiree dansante avec l’orchestre Eric Ferrari. This festival of music occurs every year in every village in France, all celebrating music on the same day. There is a singing and dancing competition and then a disco in the square till late.

13, 14 juillet – La soiree du 13 juillet, un diner in the village square to celebrate the Storming of the Bastille, which is on 14th July. Tables fill one side of the square and there is music and dancing on the other till late.

Juillet, date TBC – Open day in the village olive oil press, Le Moulin, with demonstrations, tastings, wine, and cooking competitions of Aioli sauce and tapenades.

In the olives-en-provence-9-1week around 15 Août every year, there are numerous festivals, anniversaries and street parties, with activities every day, mainly for children, processions, memorials (of the Allied invasion on the south coast in 1944), shows on stage, and discos and dancing every night till late. A look at any of the photos for last year will give a clue. Very busy and lots of fun for everyone. All this culminates with a big lunch under the huge plane trees for several hundred people: a traditional aioli lunch, very Provencal and a really nice local village atmosphere.

Septembre, date TBC, Fete du Chocolat – you have never seen so many things made of chocolate. There is a dinner, demonstrations, and the park is covered with marquees full of chocolat artisans’ stalls. Paradise for children!

Octobre, date TBC, Fete de la Biere – started after the village was twinned with a German village, Geschwenda, this has become a popular event, in which the French attack bockwurst and sauerkraut, Pilsen and Dingslebener Bock beers with characteristic Gallic enthusiasm for all cuisine.

Aux alolives-en-provence-9-2entours…

A really good link for annual events around the Var is Provence Web which shows you what you can do month by month so you can pick the events during the time you want to be here.

Another good place is at l’Office de Tourisme de la Provence Verte where you can find loads of things to do in the menu “Sorties & Festivites”, including restaurants, night life, markets all over the Var, and “Que Faire”.

For the kids, tried and tested with some of our guests is La Crau Parc. The children literally had to be dragged from the trees!

Here is a real handy site for les marchés which locates the area, the time of the market and the name of the village so you can the find your way on any route map (there’s one in the gite).

Les Plages – we’ve put details of where to find good beaches, with maps, in the gite for when you arrive.

Guide Books – we’ve put a good selection of these in the gite too, with a map.

After all this, we’ll answer questions as best we can to put you on the right track for what you want to do here.
